Yoga Class Descriptions

Yin Yoga
In this class, we will explore how the slow steady stretching of deep connective tissue can increase flexibility and gradually create more depth in poses. We will focus on developing sensitivity to our body's subtle cues by quieting our minds and looking inward. Join Faith Brandt in the calming atmosphere of the Yoga Center as we explore how stretching and releasing our ligaments, tendons and fascia can promote an increased energy flow through the body.

Viniyoga
Viniyoga is not a style of yoga but rather an approach utilizing its tools. Ideally, each student would have their own practice separate from anyone else taking into account age, job or occupation, strengths and weaknesses of both body and mind. Taking a student right where they are and developing a yoga practice suited for them using viniyoga methodology is the ideal way, but because we are in a group setting we practice a developmental approach using the viniyoga principles through the application of Asana (postures) and Pranayama (breath work). Through stretching and contracting we find that repetition increases circulation making our muscles stronger and more flexible. This prepares us for hlding postures. Most postures are suited for all levels of students and can be modified.

Restorative Yoga
Learn new ways to respond to and work with disease and the often difficult treatments one may experience. While yoga is not a cure, it does enhance physical and emotional wellness, bringing a peace you may have thought was lost forever. The one essential ingredient the body must have in order to heal is relaxation. Restorative Yoga is a passive yoga practice that encourages conscious relaxation. We will relax into stillness, breath with awareness, and practice the art of letting go, of being rather than doing. This state of deep relaxation, strengthens the immune system, increases longevity, generates serenity and peace of mind.

Beginning Yoga
The beginning yoga class is suitable for students who are curious about yoga and have little or no experience in the practice. In class, students will explore varouis asana's (postures) which increased range of motion and flexibility. Asana practice increases self awareness and provides students with a deeper level of comfort in their physical body. Self awareness will also be explored through different mindfulness practices which may include various breathing techniques, visualizations and centering practices.

Yoga with Weights
In the Yoga with Weights Class, the hand weight of your choice can be used at various times to foster increased length and strength, while toning the arms. The spinal column benefits, your breath capacity increases and ultimately the body's freedom leads to greater peace of mind. During the yoga postures, this class offers a different use for weights and is not your typical weight lifting or weight training class. People with Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, Scoliosis/ Lordosis and other structural misalignments may benefit. (Please consult your Doctor prior to class) Come check it out and see how you feel afterwards!  Mondays at 6 p.m. and Fridays at 6:30 a.m.  Call Colleen Hoffman (970-484-5154) prior to class if you want additional information.  The instructor is drawing on 9 years of her own personal experience with an osteoporosis diagnosis.
